Amazon is opening cloud regions in Southeast Asia in response to customer demand for localized data storage. Werner Vogels, Amazon’s CTO, highlighted the importance of having on-site technologies to meet customers’ data storage requirements and protection of personal identifiable information. Amazon Web Services (AWS) was the largest cloud service provider in Q4 2021, accounting for 31% of total cloud spending. AWS regions offer secure data centers and redundant networks, attracting not only startups but also big enterprises and government agencies. Vogels emphasized that security is a top priority for AWS.
